New Evolutions Contracting managed and implemented the complete renovation of two bathrooms in an 1925 single family residence at Kits Point, Vancouver.
The project involved removing flooring, tub, shower tiles, and vanities. The project also involved new and revised electrical wiring, new tiling, and plumbing changes.
New Evolutions aligned the sub trades and ordering of parts needed in an expeditious manner. There were some surprises during demolition, such as concrete floors that needed to be removed. New Evolutions kept the project plan and budget updated with such changes.
At the end of the project, we are very satisfied with the quality of work. The wallboard work and painting are excellent. The renovated bathrooms fit into the home seamlessly.

Most recently he built new back stairs for us and installation of a whole new kitchen floor and appliances. The work has always been first rate, the cost reasonable. For years when we need work done, we adjust to his schedule as we trust his work and are prepared to wait if needed. His most recent job was looked at by a friend of ours- a retired carpenter who used to be in the same line of work. Instead of finding faults, he simply stood back in admiration and murmured- “great work.” That’s a pretty good review.

Berm and his team have completed several projects for us. We first called on him to rebuild a rickety old exterior staircase to our home’s third floor. He took this on and completed it in record time while also making several suggestions and improvements to the home structure along the way. That was five years ago, and the stairs are still as good as new. We then brought him in to renovate a large landing space upstairs that was lacking purpose. Berm transformed the area into beautiful modern closets with interior lighting, an integrated work desk and shelves with a computer monitor built into the wall, custom storage hatches and a bespoke storage bench. He also repainted the entire space and attached bath with clay-based paints and installed new baseboards and lighting fixtures to finish the transformation from a little-used landing into a bright, cheerful multiuse room that we want to be in every day. 

His attention to detail and focus on design makes him an artist. He can and will critique any ideas you share with him, and he brings many years of experience into these conversations. After we finalized our design and budget with him, we were amazed at the research and work that went into sourcing each fixture and mechanical part to ensure they hold up to daily use while looking great. He was not averse to taking something apart and doing it over if the finished product did not meet his vision. Our storage bench has inside joints that look as finished as the outside - the inside edges vanish into a continuous smooth curved surface. Every project he has completed for us has added to our enjoyment of our home today, and we are confident that it will boost the value of our house on the market in the future. 

When you hire someone to take on a large project, you want to know they can be trusted not just to do it right but also with your home. Berm and the New Evolutions team deliver on both counts. On multiple occasions, Berm has started and finished projects while we were away, and we returned to a spotless home.

He is truly one of the finest carpenters I have had the privilege to work with; he is a person who combines his professional skills with an exceptional character as a human being.

We’re the people who live in the house with the beautiful Grandview Deck Cover, and we enjoy the fruit of Berm’s labor of love. The picture speaks for itself, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. We needed a structure to properly protect our deck (and the dwelling space below) from the rain, the wind and the snow. We wanted a structure that incorporated the trees, the beauty of our back garden and sunlight for our grape vine. We wanted a cozy and intimate space with a sense of privacy, along with a sound barrier to honour our neighbours.

In order to receive a development and building permit from the city, we needed architectural drawings and structural engineering assurance. Berm took on this project with a smile, skillfully working and navigating through challenges from the city, neighbours and Mother Nature. In the middle of winter, during a snowfall, he continued working to cover the deck and made sure that the dwelling underneath was protected. Berm’s innovative mind finds practical solutions to unexpected building challenges. When a solution doesn’t fit his high-standards, he is not afraid to look for a better one that would not only meet the structural building code but also is aesthetically appealing.

Berm doesn’t cut corners – he only builds something he is proud of. Our new deck is a space of profound beauty and elegance, a cozy and intimate space for us all to share and enjoy for many years to come and we thank Berm for that.
