Expanding the renovations business

Although New Evolutions was founded in 2010, Berm himself has more than 20 years of experience as a carpenter; his early years were spent building sets for film and TV, while taking on other renovation projects on the side. And when looking to start his own business, he was assisted through the government's Self-Employment Program (“They were really great”, he recalls).
Currently, the boutique renovation company is small – just Berm and one other carpenter, with plumbing and electrical work outsourced – but that hasn't stopped them from racking up an impressive list of projects, including everything from exterior work, to kitchens and bathrooms, to deck renovations.
“I'd definitely like to expand the business,” Berm says. “Currently, there are two of us, but it would be nice to grow beyond that, and be able to take on larger projects.”
